Health and Social Care equips our students to understand and apply the fundamental principles and concepts of the rights of individuals, person centred values, effective communication and how to protect individuals in health and social care settings. They will develop learning and practical skills that can be applied to real-life contexts and work situations. The course requires students to think creatively, innovatively, analytically, logically and critically developing independence and confidence in using skills that would be relevant to the health and social care sector and more widely.
Students will learn about the importance of the rights of service users, person-centred values and how to apply them. They will also learn about the importance of effective communication skills when providing care and support for service users in health and social care settings and the procedures and measures used to protect individuals such as safeguarding, hygiene and security.
Students will study how as humans how we journey through the stages of life and through that journey we can experience many life changing events. They will learn that we are influenced by many factors that affect our growth and development. Students will learn about life stages and the factors that affect them. They will understand expected and unexpected life events and the impact they will have on physical, social/emotional and socio-economic aspects in an individual’s life. Through research students will understand how service providers and practitioners can support individuals, recommend support and justify how this will meet the needs of a specific individual.
Students will study that the UK has faced many public health challenges in modern times. They will research public health campaigns that are used in a variety of ways to engage the public and to encourage physical, intellectual, emotional and social health and wellbeing. understanding that it is vital to society that people remain healthy. Students will have the opportunity to explore the various public health challenges the country faces and the approaches used to encourage health and wellbeing, linking their importance to our society. Students will study the factors affecting a healthy lifestyle so that their campaigns can be designed to target different groups of people. They will also learn how to plan and deliver their own small-scale health promotion campaign and how to evaluate their planning and delivery.
